The crash happens (on this card at least) when the code tries to enable one specific extension called GL_EXT_depth_bounds_test. I did some testing with my HD 5850 and surprisingly it is not the OpenGL version check that causes the crash. This tool is amazing and is capable of identifying which extension exactly causes the crash after all it was made for debugging and logging.
